The Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (RTRDA) is partnering with Japan's Toyo Kikai to pilot local content for maintaining Thailand's railway system under the Thai First Policy of Mr. Saksayam Chidchob, Minister of Transport.
On 26th January 2023, Dr. Chotchai Charoenngam, Chair of the Board, Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (Public Organization) (RTRDA), Dr. Santi Charoenpornpattana, President of RTRDA, Mr. Hiroki Zasaki, and Mr. Junya Watanabe, executives of Toyo Kikai Company, Japan, and related officers attended a meeting to consult and conduct a feasibility study on building a production base for machines, equipment, and parts to maintain the Thai railway system, as well as establishing guidelines for supporting exports to Asia.
Under the MOU, both agencies will work together to complete studies and surveys on the demands of domestic and international markets. The first milestone of this partnership is expected to be completed in September 2023.
If the study is successful, it could lead to the development of Thailand's rail technology industry.
