Memorandum of Agreement for Collaborative Research and Development of Standardization and Testing Innovations for Rail Products to Ensure Alignment with Railway System Advancements in Thailand.
Memorandum of Agreement was signed at the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) in Pathum Thani Province.
On 14th February 2023, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed at the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) in Pathum Thani Province.
The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong, President of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), Dr. Pichet Kunadhamraks, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport (DRT), and Dr. Santi Charoenpornpattana, President of Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (Public Organization) (RTRDA). The purpose of the agreement is to enhance the railway system industry by driving research and development of innovations on standards and testing for products in the railway system, in order to make the products consistent with the railway system development in Thailand.
The railway system is a crucial transportation and logistics system that can efficiently transport a large number of passengers and goods, reducing transportation time and costs. Thailand has invested heavily in this infrastructure, including in Bangkok and other cities such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, Khon Kaen, and Nakhon Ratchasima. The development of a double-track railway has also been prioritized to improve the long-distance transportation of passengers and goods, connecting Thailand with neighbouring countries. Plans are also underway to develop a modern, high-speed train system that will connect with Laos. These initiatives are part of Thailand's National Development Plan, which aims to make the country a major transport hub and a leader in the railway system industry in the region.
The main goal of these developments is to ensure sustainable growth in Thailand's rail technology sector, driving economic growth and improving the quality of life of Thai people by enhancing transportation safety and efficiency. This will also improve Thailand's competitive capacity in the global market, making the country a major player in the railway system industry.
